[HOWTO] Unstuck between 3.1.3 and iOS4

I was trying to upgrade to custom iOS4 right after the release of Pwnagetool 4.01, but got stuck with error 1600 and 1604. Apple stopped signing 3.1.3 so, I can’t get back to 3.1.3 to get the phone unlocked. Basically the phone is stuck in restore mode. Here’s how i manage to get out of the restore mode and use 3.1.3.
- Download Blackra1n
- Run blackra1n. If you have ASL.DLL error, make sure you copy blackra1n.exe to
C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support - When the device reboot, pay attention to the screen. Once it get out of the restore mode, quickly unplug the data cable. If not, repeat again.
Once done, you may want to upgrade to iOS4 the right way

A lot of info that iPhone 3GS 3.1.3 with Modem Firmware 05.12.01 can only be jailbroken using spirit jailbreak and no way to upgrade to iOS4. Here’s a full unlock of iOS4 when you’re stuck at 3.1.3 spirit jailbreak.

Android on iPhone

To spare typing and posting time, I’ll post the link to the guide that I followed:

That link is actually for a Linux, so I uses VirtualBox and a Linux (Ubuntu) image file. From there I followed most part of the guide.
However I’ll post my observation (on 2G):
- It’s running way too sluggish
- Call sometimes doesn’t work (stuck at the calling, but not really dialing)
- Phone becomes really warm and battery drain is too much
- There’s not enough button
- Overall condition is not really usable for daily use
Couple notes:
- If Wifi connects but browser not going anywhere, try the DNS fix
- All “adb” type commands require the download of SDK
- If Virtual Box can’t connect to the iPhone when doing the ‘./oibc’ portion, you may need to shut down and restart your virtual machine (including the Virtual Box itself)
- Going to Apple’s recovery mode (for upgraders) from the openiboot would require you to hold the “Menu” button after choosing the iPhone mode

[HOWTO] Cydia and Installer Is Hidden After Upgrade and Quickpwn

I upgraded to 2.2.1 using iTunes and was hoping to install all my Cydia based apps afterwards. I use quickpwn and decided to install both Cydia and Installer. What I forgot to do was to move Cydia and Installer out of Categories (a 3rd party software to hide icons and create folders). Basically all apps that were hidden using the Categories are now hidden without any way to access them (SSH was not installed after quickpwn).
I found a solution:
- Enable Restrictions by going to Settings -> General -> Restrictions and key in a pass code
- Go to home and disable the restrictions (by going through the same menu above)
After I do that, all my applications shows up again (except for Cydia based apps which are deleted by the upgrade process).
