That link is actually for a Linux, so I uses VirtualBox and a Linux (Ubuntu) image file. From there I followed most part of the guide.

However I’ll post my observation (on 2G):

• It’s running way too sluggish
• Call sometimes doesn’t work (stuck at the calling, but not really dialing)
• Phone becomes really warm and battery drain is too much
• There’s not enough button
• Overall condition is not really usable for daily use

Couple notes:

• If Wifi connects but browser not going anywhere, try the DNS fix
• All “adb” type commands require the download of SDK
• If Virtual Box can’t connect to the iPhone when doing the ‘./oibc’ portion, you may need to shut down and restart your virtual machine (including the Virtual Box itself)
• Going to Apple’s recovery mode (for upgraders) from the openiboot would require you to hold the “Menu” button after choosing the iPhone mode

Modify Each Virtual Host
For each virtual host that you want to log to SQL, add the following line:

where access_log is replaced by any table name; to differentiate many different virtual host, you can use the name of each virtual host here by replacing each dot (‘.’) with underscore (‘_’)

Enabling Multimedia System Selector

1. Goto System -> Preferences -> Main Menu
2. Browse to System -> Preferences section
3. Check the box where it says “Multimedia System Selector”

Changing the Multimedia System Video Output

1. Goto System -> Preferences -> Multimedia System Selector
2. Goto Video Tab
3. Change the Default Output Plugin to “X Window System (No Xv)”
4. Click OK & Restart Movie Player

Changing the VLC Setting

1. Goto Settings -> Preferences -> Video -> Output Modules
2. Check the box that says “Advanced options” at the lower right corner
3. Change the Video output module to “X11 video output”
4. Click Save

UPDATE:
Changing the Xine Setting

1. Right Click -> Settings -> Setup (or Alt+S)
2. Change “Configuration experience level” to “Expert”
3. Goto Video and change “Video driver to use” to “xshm”
4. Click Apply, Close then restart Xine

Install the packages by running the command:

sudo apt-get install dvdrip subtitleripper ksubtitleripper gocr mplayer libdvdread3 debhelper fakeroot rar unrar libxine1 xine-ui

After the package is installed, run the following:

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

NOTE: You don’t have to do this second part if you have already followed my previous guide on enabling DVD playback on Ubuntu.

1. Install Cacti on the New Server
2. Turn Off Cacti at the Old Server
3. Migrate the Database
4. Copy the RRD Files as XML
5. Reconvert the XML back to RRD File
6. Activate the New Cacti

1. Installing Cacti on the New Server

1. Run the command

   sudo apt-get install cacti

2. Use dbconfig and put in the passwords requested
3. Run the command

   vi /etc/cron.d/cacti

4. Disable the poller by putting the character ‘#’ in front of the crontab entry then save & quit

2. Turn Off Cacti at the Old Server

1. Run the command

   vi /etc/cron.d/cacti

2. put the character ‘#’ in front of the crontab entry to disable the polling then save & quit
3. (Optional) Remove the symlink from

   /etc/apache2/conf.d/cacti

3. Migrate the Database

1. At the old server, run the command

   mysqldump cacti > ~/cacti.sql

2. SFTP into the old server and grab the data
3. Run the command

   mysql cacti < ~/cacti.sql

   (NOTE:use -u to change user, –password= to use the password, and choose the path to where the cacti.sql downloaded)

4. Copy RRD File as XML

1. Goto the directory

   /var/lib/cacti/rra/

2. Run the following script

   ls -1 *.rrd | awk '{print "rrdtool dump "$1" > "$1".xml"}' | sh -x

3. Tar & GZip the XML files using the command

   tar -czvf ~/rrd.tgz *.rrd.xml

6. Reconvert the XML back to RRD

1. SFTP into the old server and download the ‘rrd.tgz’ created in the step before
2. Move the file to the new

   /var/lib/cacti/rra/

   directory

3. Run the command

   ls -1 *.rrd.xml | sed 's/\.xml//' | awk '{print "rrdtool restore "$1".xml "$1}' | sh -x

4. Change ownership of all RRD files to www-data by running the command:

   chown www-data:www-data *.rrd

7. Activate the New Cacti

1. Visit the new site and set the mode to ‘Upgrade’
2. Reactivate the Poller
3. Run the command

   vi /etc/cron.d/cacti

4. Enable the poller by removing the character ‘#’ in front of the crontab entry then save & quit

Run the following command from the Terminal:

sudo apt-get install totem-xine libxine1-ffmpeg libdvdread3

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh

You only need to this ONE time only.

The solution revolves around:

1. Download and install binary driver from ATI
2. Remove the MESA driver
3. Force aticonfig to renew the xorg.conf
4. Make sure AIGLX and Composite is On/Enabled

Removing MESA Driver
Run the command:

sudo apt-get remove xorg-xgl

Run aticonfig
Run the command:

sudo aticonfig --initial -f

Check AIGLX & Compositing are enabled

• Run the command:

  sudo vi /etc/X11/xorg.conf

• Search for the keywords ‘AIGLX’ and ‘Composite’.
• AIGLX should be under ServerFlags section and the value should be ‘On’

  Options AIGLX 'On'

• Composite should be under Extensions section and the value should be ‘Enable’

  Options Composite 'Enable'

If anyone has every experienced running Windows XP using a VESA/default graphic card driver at high resolution, that’s how it feels. For those who are not familiar, it feels that the screen refreshes very slowly. For example, when I open up terminal, I can see rectangular dotted outline zooming out before the window pops out. After that it slowly draws the window decoration. Another example, when I scroll a web page on Firefox, the top part of the next page would be drawn first, then half a second later, the lower part is drawn. It is very annoying and almost rendering the GUI non-usable. FYI, the GUI is set with visual effects set to “None”.

I have tried to install linux-restricted-modules, xorg-driver-fglrx, xserver-xgl and the official ATI drivers but to no avail. I have run a check on the fglrxinfo and it’s fine. I even tried the glxgears, but only getting about 60fps.

I am still trying to fix the issue, and will update what I found out later on a separate blog entry.

When I tried to edit any text file, it will say that it can’t find the command. Also when I press down arrow while in edit mode, it will print out the letter ‘B’ (without quotes). To solve this issue, I have to install vim again by simply running the command

sudo apt-get install vim
